“Prayer for the Future”
|
The Jemez Mountains are
now home to Rollie where his
studio, home and gallery are situated between two giant mesas that overlook
the village of Jemez Springs, New Mexico. Drawing on his rich
heritage of the Turtle Mountain Chippewa in North Dakota, Rollie has been
working as a stone sculptor for over 20 years. His teachers were all renowned
stone sculptors who guided him through the many phases of creating a piece of
art in stone. Over the years, he has had over 200 students, and some
have gone on to become fulltime professional sculptors. Rollie's work has
been in galleries and exhibitions throughout the United States, Japan, Europe
and Canada. His sculptures are also included in many corporate,
private, and tribal collections. Figurative, abstract or
representational, Rollie's sculptures are carved with the deep passion he
draws from his Native heritage. The bear, the eagle and Spirit of the Earth
are clearly present in his art. |

“ I am a sculptor who works in stone from quarries around the
world. I also create bronze castings from my exceptional stone
originals. Many of my themes incorporate
a stylized eagle, which are usually carved with the mouth open, singing a
song of freedom or carrying our prayers to the Creator…” “Most
of my inspiration comes from my wife and children. |
