One
of ten children raised in Belcourt, North Dakota, Rollie was raised in the
Chippewa tradition. His father taught him the value of working hard. His grandmother taught him the traditions of
his people, while his mother inspired him with her artistic talents. Rollie received his Associate of Fine Arts
degree from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico after
serving as the student body president. Rollie Grandbois works exclusively in
stone from his studio in Jemez Springs, about an hour southwest of Santa Fe,
New Mexico
